about

A double A-sided virtual 45.

"A Change of Seasons" is about just that. It was written in August-September of this year.

"Narrow Escape" was written in March, and is dedicated to the victims of the September 13, 2003 mass shooting at Dawson College in Montreal, QC, Canada, including Anastasia Rebecca De Sousa, who died on the scene, as well as those who were injured and otherwise traumatized.

My own personal connection to the event is that I was working at Dawson College (for a then-affiliated non-profit organization) at the time and entered the building at the time the shooting began- fortunately via an entrance other than the one I often used when returning from lunch. And then the lockdown, the wait, the evacuation by the SWAT team, a brief TV news appearance...

I got around to recording the song in September, just in time for the 17th anniversary. Anastasia was, I believe, 17 years old when she was murdered. I never met her, but I mourn her senseless death all the same.
